iPhone Vs Blackberry - A Mobile Device Comparison

The BlackBerry has been favored over other smartphones for corporate use for a number of reasons. However, in today's workplace, enterprises are adopting iPhones at a rapid pace, because of a push by employees who want to use them in both their personal and professional life.

Yes, there will always be great debate over which mobile device is superior from a usability standpoint. But when it comes to security, which device is best suited for the enterprise?

Mobile device comparison

BlackBerry®:

Robust management ecosystem: The significant differentiator in security is the management flexibility that the BlackBerry provides. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server® provides rich controls that allow scalable management for thousands of users.

Application policies: Administrators can define precise policies to control which applications can be downloaded to and run on the device. The security model allows administrators to translate and enforce acceptable use policies.

Transport security: The BlackBerry uses a secure and encrypted connection back to the enterprise that enables it to access corporate resources. This transparent VPN connection allows accessibility without exposing resources to the cloud.

Device/data encryption software security: The BlackBerry has robust encryption and data protection built in. Policies can be centrally defined. This ensures web traffic passes through scanning proxies and the device itself is kept very secure with very strong data encryption.

Remote wipe/restore: If a device is lost it can be remotely disabled and the data removed very quickly. Moreover, new devices can be provisioned with a complete copy of the original data, policies and applications. Research in Motion (RIM) provides the right tools for secure mobile computing - they just need to be configured. In particular, take advantage of the device's configuration capabilities to lock down the methods by which software can be installed. The recent spyware distributed by Etisala is an example of increasing focus on mobile devices. RIM produced a whitepaper paper that thoroughly explains how to lock down the device to control applications and prevent such threats.

iPhone(TM):

Lack of computer policies: Unlike the BlackBerry, the iPhone does not have rich central management. A simple portal is provided to allow device location (using the built-in GPS) and remote wipe, which works reasonably well, compared to earlier versions that took many hours to remove the the vulnerabilities. Unfortunately, there are no controls over allowed applications, configuration or security. Users must set up their own configuration (and they make it very easy) but this doesn't mean that secure protocols are necessarily used.

Too much user privilege: The iPhone essentially provides all users with administrator capabilities. They can install any applications or change any of the configurations. While this delivers user satisfaction, it is a security nightmare. This pushes the security policy on to the user with a severe dependence on education.

Exposure to cloud: While BlackBerry provides seamless and secure access to corporate resources within the perimeter, the iPhone requires exposure to the internet. Smaller businesses, or those embracing cloud exposed mail systems or corporate resources, will find the device easy to configure. Those with internal systems with controlled exposure may find the iPhone requires them to break their data protection security model or to have users VPN in to access resources. This can degrade the usability of the solution but is key to avoid exposing sensitive data in a cloud where the security model is still not yet broadly defined.

Client Retention 101 - What Happened to Your New Client?

One of my favorite programs is 3rd Rock from the Sun. It's a television show about aliens who come to earth. The other night, I watched the final episode where the chief alien, 'Dick' was going to take 'Mary' (his human girlfriend) back to his planet. In the final scene you see Dick leading Mary to their 'spacecraft.'

After watching this episode, I thought about our clients. Especially the ones that come for one session and then we never hear from them again. From our side, that first session seemed to go just fine, even very well. We started to build rapport and assist our client with our modality.

And yet, why didn't they return for another session or book a followup treatment?

We can start to wonder:

* Was the session not what they expected?
* Did they not like me?
* Was I not good enough... are they seeing someone else now?
* Were they abducted by aliens? (Smile!)

Every Practitioner, new and experienced, can question why clients do not return or come back for our services. It's frustrating especially when we can give our heart and soul (and sometimes extra time) into that first session to really impress them!

We can also begin to doubt our ability to heal and this can affect our confidence when talking about what we do. While there can be many reasons a client does not return after the 1st treatment or even the 2nd appointment, I want to cover some easy solutions to have in place to ensure client retention.

1. Set Realistic expectations.

One reason that clients do not return after their first appointment is they did not have realistic expectations to begin with. If they are thinking their problem or challenge will be solved in that first session, your client might make the conclusion that your services do not work or do not work for them.

One solution is to talk with them before taking them on as a client and ask a few specific questions about what they are needing and share what they can expect in your treatments and sessions. I highly recommend you offering a 15 minute "F*ree Consultation". Please note: this is not a f*ree full session, but a brief phone call so you can assess their needs, make a connection and communicate reasonable expectations when working with you.

2. Check in with your new client.

Sometimes your client will have a quick question that arises from a treatment. They might have symptoms arise, such as tiredness after an acupuncture session, soreness of muscles after a massage. Sometimes different emotions or memories arise after an EFT or hypnotherapy session.

Your client does know what these signs mean nor if they are 'normal.' And many (believe it or not) will not pick up the phone or email to ask you. You might be losing clients because you're not checking in with them to address these questions or concerns.

To remedy this I recommend setting up a quick check-in after they see you the first phone session or visit to your office. This doesn't have to take a lot of your time. You can send an email asking how they are doing or make a brief 5 minute phone call to let them know you want to see if they have any questions.

I promise you they will be pleasantly surprised to receive your check-in phone call or email. And you're giving your client an opportunity to connect and communicate with you and handle any questions as they arise.

3. Create Simple "Keep-in-Touch" Methods.

People are busy and get easily caught up in their lives. Having a gentle reminder or two that you're there to serve and assist them (and their family and friends) is essential.

Adding your client to a newsletter, either a paper one or an email newsletter. Letting them know of your blog or Facebook group or fan page. Sending a Happy Birthday card or Holiday card. Even emailing them or sending them a recent article you have written on a subject of interest. Invite them to a free teleclass or workshop.

These are all ways to keep the contact and connection with your new clients active. You don't have to do all of the above, just choose one or two and be consistent.

Remember you don't need hundreds of new clients! You just need to have a group of satisfied clients that know, like and trust you and will refer others to your Practice.

When you take simple steps to keep in touch with your clients and put into place procedures that will foster communication, your Practice will steadily grow. You'll have less clients 'dropping off the face of the earth' and your confidence and reputation as a professional Practitioner will increase too.

How many ways are there to make money online?

Geez, where can I start ? Lets see, Google Adsense comes to mind, get a website, write a ton of good content, do search engine optimization to drive traffic to your site. But there is so much more to it. The ads need to blend into the site, be placed in the correct area, the goal here is to get a good click thru rate. How many websites? My goal is to get as many websites out there on the net to start making additional revenue streams.

E-Books, I will eventually write an E-book about the Pay Per Click industry with tips and tricks or possibly a home computer security book. All that is need is some software, a domain name, some great web design and graphic design for the book. I don't want to publish a boring and non-informative book. I want my clients to get solid information for a great price. Maybe Ill will write about software to keep kids from viewing websites, they shouldn't and how parents can monitor their activities without their knowledge. Because most kids nowadays know more about technology than their parents.

Amazon, I use Amazon currently to sell books. I do well. I would make more if I put more time into it, but that's the problem time. Amazon is simple to use, but I do make frequent trips to the post office. The solution? http://www.stamps.com.

E-bay, I have hundred of beanie babies that I need to get online. Anyone interested. That was a joke. With E-Bay you can sell almost anything. Just create a account, set up billing information and take a photo. Sounds simple, it is. But there are many advanced selling strategies that can be found out thru E-bay.

Online business, you can advertise your services online or create your own website, to offer good that you might have. Anything you want to sell does not need to go thru E-bay, they just make it easier for you, but there are fees to pay.

Yahoo Stores, Nowadays you can even purchase pre-built online stores, with drop shippers ready to ship products you don't even need inventory. This is pretty sweet although customer service can be a nightmare for your customers though.

I wish you the best of luck with you online endeavours !

Are You Getting Tons of New Clients From Twitter Or LinkedIn

Although many business owners believe that marketing is mainly talking to a lot of people, and giving your sales pitch . . . they are missing the real point of marketing.

Find enough people to help and you'll have everything you ever wanted

I think it was Zig Ziglar that said, "If you find enough people to help you will always have whatever you want." Or something like that. That was the point of it anyway.

And a part of that is developing a relationship with those people through your providing that help through providing information, advice . . . just plain giving them a taste of what they want.

People buy from those they know, like and trust, which is basically "building a relationship" with those people so that they know what you have to offer (possibly by giving them a taste, or sharing some advice). If they like what you say or give them, or the results they got from it, and, therefore, they start trusting that anything you might say in the future will be just as good.

It all starts with them getting to know you both from a business perspective, and from a personal relationship perspective. So, how do you do that?

Twitter is a great way of doing that.

Set up a twitter account, and make sure that any potential prospect is given your Twitter address and encouraged to "follow you" on Twitter.
Update Twitter with "what are you doing now", but make sure that it's something that would ATTRACT the ATTENTION of your prospective audience. Show what you are doing, and even pass along testimonials, and announcements of "what just happened with a client." Brag on the progress of that client, share it with everyone following you. They will want some of the same results. By bragging about the client's progress YOU aren't bragging about you, but you are just SHARING what that client accomplished (with your help of course).
Connect Twitter with other websites. For instance, when I write an article on Ezine Articles I have it linked to Twitter so that every article gets shared with those that "follow" me on Twitter. More of my articles get read, almost 10 times as much for that very reason.

Use LinkedIn--

Set up your profile on LinkedIn, but make it about the results your clients get, not about you. Marketing is always about what the RESULTS that a client gets, not about you, your products, or your services. Make that switch and watch your results go through the roof. Just imagine that your profile is RIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE, the first thing anyone sees. Make it an exciting RESULTS you provide headline so that people WILL WANT to contact you to find out more.
Be active on LinkedIn -- Look for questions asked by others that you can answer. Make sure that you answer those questions with a MEASURABLE RESULTS typeof answer, and you will be given an "expert" award by the person who asked the question. Get enough of those and people will notice you and want to talk wth you. Ask your own questions -- but make them something like, "Is anyone getting even 10 new clients a month? I'd like to hear how others are getting new clients, share with us." Or "Who would like to join a Mastermind group of CEOs." I got clients from both of those.
Use LinkedIn to lookup your IDEAL client. Call them. Say you found them on LinkedIn and wanted to know how LinkedIn has worked for them, and what they'd like to see happen with their business (or life if you are a life coach), and just suggest, "Let's set down over coffee and figure out how we can make that happen." I get as many appointments a week as I want or can handle when I do that.
Be innovative with LinkedIn -- How could you create a group from Mastermind to all get together to work on a specific problem. Just figure that "the more you give away the more that will come back." As Zig Ziglar said, "find enough people to help and you'll have everything you ever wanted." So, use LinkedIn to get those people together.

I've used LinkedIn to get clients for my clients, about 15 new clients a week for one of them, just by calling.

I once created a "Top CEO's of the Top Businesses in Kansas City" networking group using LinkedIn. I just identified the biggest businesses in Kansas City, found names of the CEOs and upper level executives in those organizations in the LinkedIn database, and simply called them. I told them that they were invoted to the "Top CEOS of the Top Businesses" networking group and wondered if they'd be interested in going to lunch with . . . and named a few of the other CEOs I had identified.

We met every week for lunch. Every week there were 3-4 regulars, and about 3-4 new ones that attended. If anyone walked into that restaurant and saw who was setting there they would be SHOCKED. Actually, I was somewhat shocked to realize who I was reaching and rarely got turned down.

These were companies ranging in the Billions, and I'd occasionally reach into companies of 100's of millions to sprinkle them in, while enticing them to surround themselves with those bigger CEOs.

Try it. You'll be surprised.

A Block Checker - A Great Tool to Find Out If You Are Being Ignored

Have you ever got the eerie feeling that someone that you are trying to communicate with online may have a block on your email or instant messenger account? It is entirely possible with a block checker!

You can block anyone from communicating with you on Yahoo Messenger, AIM, G-Talk and others instant messenger sites - and it does not take more than a few clicks to activate these types of programs. If the suspense is killing you - you can find out just what's going on by installing and using a one of these programs which will, as the name implies, check to see if you are in fact, being blacklisted by this particular individual.

If you are using Yahoo Messenger, look under the "options tab" and then click on "privacy". You will see a list that says "allow" or "block" and an option that says "all others". This must be in bold in order for you to see if people are blocking you, and the person you want to check must also have "all others" unchecked on his or her list. The reason is because that the block checker must be given permission to see if that person is online - which is the only way that the program can see if you have been blocked.

Basically, if the block checker sees this mysterious person online and you do not see them online - then you may assume that the person has blocked you. This is the way that most all of these types of programs work - and keep in mind that they are not entirely accurate - the code to these programs is certainly nothing like rocket science, so there is a large margin for error.

Lots of folks have default settings on their Yahoo Messenger, which means that they have the "only allowed" segment checked and then "all others" to allow on their list, which is why block checkers work with most emails - but again, nothing is written in stone so don't become too offended - you might not be blocked - the other party may simply be logging on as invisible to everyone.

There are different block checker programs for all of the major messaging sites - including MSN, AIM, G-Talk and others - so if you believe someone has you blocked, you can do a quick check and get a pretty good idea (although not concrete) if you have been kicked out of their cyber world or not. These programs can be invaluable tools - but if they really are not returning your instant messages or emails -do you really want to find out the "ugly truth" or do you want to just "move on" and stop obsessing?

Connecting to the Office From Home With Business Broadband

Many businesses will have members of staff whose job dictates that they are constantly on the move. Usually sales teams may be meeting with clients or some executives may only be based in the office on certain days. This doesn't mean that they need to be completely out of reach should they need to access files or communicate with other staff members sat in your offices.

Broadband at home is one of the many ways people who are unable to come to the office or any particular branch to stay in touch with the business. An example would be a sales team member has gone out to see an important client, they are successful in this meeting and have documents that need signing and taking back to the offices.

Now a situation like this would be inconvenient for the salesman to drive all the way back to the office which could be many miles away. Many documents or agreements are time sensitive and so need transferring immediately so that the business does not suffer. By being able to either use mobile business broadband or a secure business broadband connection from home they will be able to transfer the documents electronically with ease.

This is just one instance where broadband can be beneficial to your business by speeding up processes that traditionally would have taken a long time to complete. Another instance is where many company owners or CEOs may not spend the whole working week in the office, by having a business broadband connection at home they are able to operate from home unrestricted as email, instant messaging and even video conferencing can be conducted over business broadband lines.

In order to ensure you get the best level of service getting business connections as opposed to regular consumer broadband can prove beneficial. Firstly home business broadband connections will be dedicated lines back into your company's network and infrastructure, this means you'll be able to access all your files and networks as if you were there in the office.

Business broadband providers are also incredibly client driven; they value your business and provide instant responses to any problems or issues you may be experiencing. With home broadband it normally takes more than one person to have reported a fault for some less-conscientious providers to send an engineer out, with business broadband you will often have a direct line to bypass recorded messages and have service levels agreements in place to ensure that you are not left high and dry.

So if your business is among the many that are not tied to one single location you may find that getting dedicated business broadband lines is the best way to ensure the continued and secure running of your business.
