Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) as an FTP client does not work

With the latest version of Internet Explorer 7 (and it essentially displaces forced aaarrrgg), those who used IE6 as a FTP client is subject to some changes and questions. Here are the highlights of the changes:

* The URL syntax with embedded username and password

(zB@ftp.domain.com ftp://usr:pswd)

and similar syntax is no longer supported.

* To be considered a "Sign ..." There are a few more clicks involved, and will open a new window.

* Actually, IE7 itselfnot for a non-anonymous login at all ... You need to open the site in Windows Explorer.

Solutions

1) Continue to open FTP sites with Internet Explorer 7, but if you "Login As ...", must follow these steps: Click on page in the upper right corner, then click Open FTP Site In Windows Explorer. If the site opens in Windows Explorer, click File, under Registration ... Enter your username and password, click Log On button.

2) You can with a few clicks by using the FTP site directly in Windows Explorer. There are many ways of opening Explorer, like simply opening "My Computer" and enter your FTP URL into the address bar. How ftp://ftp.sitename.com, then when you logon as, open file, login below ... Enter your username and password, log-on button, as described above.

3) Recommended Solution - DO NOT USE IE or Explorer.

I've never liked the use of Internet Explorer as an FTP client. As an IT manager, the problems created by those who have more calls to my help desk than any other topic.IU is probably the worst FTP client, I can imagine. So what benefit? Well, there are many free FTP clients that make a much better job. The top two I recommend are FileZilla and CuteFTP Free Trial. If you need premium tech support, and are willing to pay for it, I recommend WS_FTP by Ipswitch.

Enjoy your FTP!
